Vidders.net's Cat(alog)

One of the issues with the Vidders.net network is that there are so many vids on the network that it can be hard to find just the one you are looking for. There is now a very user friendly Cat(alog) that will begin to populate with some of the amazing vids on the network by vidders such as Balistik, Luminosity, Charmax, Thedothatgirl, and many more. There are just about 4 right now but we plan on adding about 1,000 more to the collection but it will not be overwhelming as you will be able to search by Vidder, fandom, musical, artist, etc and find what you are looking for very easily.

This catalog can be viewed both inside and outside the network (so you can get a sense of the vids there). If you are not a member you can view at the following Google site link Vidders Catalog (to view the videos you will have to log into the site to see them). We'll update as we get closer to our 1K goal.

Yes, I shamelessly used the word Cat as an abbreviation for Catalog. The audience for Cats is far larger than Vidding even in a community discussion for Vidding so I hope you understand.

We plan to expand this project and create other catalogs to include other collections of awesome vids.

If you have any questions send me a private message or if you think it's a question others reading this can benefit from leave a comment.

In ‘The Refreshing Queer Sensibility of American Gods’ for The Atlantic, Manuel Betancourt wrote [showrunner Bryan] Fuller’s trademark style enwrapped NBC’s horror-thriller drama Hannibal, where he turned a notorious cannibal and his FBI profiler into a homoerotic pairing that inspired a fan-fiction genre called Hannigram.

You won’t believe what kids are writing about celebs, book characters and other pop culture stars (Caroline Knorr, republished on Salon).

Finally, in ‘How Women Are Changing Geek Culture,’ republished on Forbes, Cecilia Tan, in answering ‘What kinds of roles do women play, in nerd culture in 2017?,’ wrote: People put their energies where they get the best encouragement and positive feedback. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why the fandom and nerd culture arenas where women don't just participate but dominate tend to be non-commercial: fan fiction, fan art, cosplay, book blogging and book-tubing. But there are also women making video games, creating comics, hitting the bestseller lists, and winning Hugo and Nebula Awards. There's no space or role that I see in nerd culture that is exclusively a male domain.

Do you have  a Democratic Senator? Want to save lives (possibly even your own) and help kill Trumpcare? The Indivisible Group has a plan. But we need to light a fire under the Democrats who still keep trying to play nice with the GOP.

The plan - the GOP has chosen to repeal healthcare in secret without any hearings or debate. But the simple majority vote (reconciliation) method allows the Democrats to force a debate by adding amendments. Thousands of them. Each one will have to be read into the record - which will give the US citizens more time to read and understand what is in the healthcare repeal bill and how it will hurt them. Otherwise, the GOP plans to repeal healthcare - without any debates or hearings - by July 4 in time for them to go home for vacation.

OK so what do I do?

You can use resist-bot to text-fax a message: https://resistbot.io/

Or call your  Senator.: http://whoismyrepresentative.com/

O
K what do I say?

This link offers a script: https://www.indivisibleguide.com/resource/withholding-consent-filibuster-amendment-call-script/

Except from the Indivisible website:

“Do you have a Democratic Senator? Then it means they’ve publicly committed to voting against TrumpCare. That’s great—but it’s not nearly good enough. This is a do-or-die moment on the ACA and your Democratic Senator should be doing everything they can to stop this bill from getting through the Senate. Here’s how they can really play hardball to defeat TrumpCare.

REPUBLICANS WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO GET TRUMPCARE THROUGH.

They’re using a strategy of speed and secrecy to pass TrumpCare in the Senate. No hearings, no town halls, and no CBO score. And they definitely aren’t letting anyone read the bill. We need to slow them way down and draw attention to their terrible bill and their terrible process. That way, everyone will know how many people will lose coverage, how many protections will be taken away, and how much premiums are expected to increase.

DEMOCRATS AREN’T IN CONTROL, BUT THEY CAN STILL RESIST.
1. Withhold Consent. 2. Filibuster by Amendment.

We’re Going To Need A Bigger Boat Vote! A 3 Step Plan To Save Healthcare Over The Next 3 Weeks.

The Senate is planning on fast-tracking the repeal of the Affordable Care Act in 3 weeks. The bill is being drafted in secret without any input from patients or doctors. The Democrats are not being allowed to participate. There will be no hearings, no town halls, no input from voters. And the “moderates” in the GOP are signaling that they will support taking away healthcare from millions of Americas.

What can you do?

STEP 1:

If you live in these states, call your Senator: http://whoismyrepresentative.com/

 TN - WV - LA - ME - AR - AZ - CO - SC - NV - AK & OH

STEP 2: Go to Facebook and type in “Friends in [name of state].” Messenger  your friends, send them this link and ask them to call. If they cannot call, have them fax from their cell phones using ResistBot (https://resistbot.io). If they cannot fax, have them email their Senators. And then ask them to pass this info on to their friends and families in those states and ask them to do the same. Also consider emailing a letter to to the editor for the local papers in your state & send them your story, mentioning your Senator.

If you don’t use Facebook, search through your contacts for people from those states and do the same.

STEP 3: If you are burned out and overwhelmed: please consider reposting on Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, LJ/DW.

More tips here: https://twitter.com/benwikler/status/872911051628707841

Deadline: we have three weeks. The vote will happen the third week in June (June 26-June 30).

Analysis | The remarkable steps Republicans are taking to obscure what’s in their health-care bill washingtonpost.com

This. Is. How Democracy. Dies.

They won’t allow anyone (even their fellow Senators) to see what is in the bill. They won’t allow any input from patients or doctors or their constituents. Last month a reporter asking about the bill by was assaulted by a GOP Rep (who has now pled guilty). And today they announced a ban against reporters in the Senate hallways - hallways that we we paid with our tax dollars.

Call Your Senator: https://5calls.org/issue/recJfyyL7LE0Ez4ys

“News on Tuesday that on-camera interviews might be significantly curtailed within the Capitol is an on-the-nose manifestation of something that had otherwise not attracted a lot of attention: The Republican effort to replace Obamacare was being put together almost entirely outside of the public’s ability to see what was happening.

When White House press secretary Sean Spicer first addressed the Republican health-care bill that would eventually pass the House last month, he was effusive that his party’s caucus on Capitol Hill would do things differently.

“One of the things that’s important to understand about this process, that’s very different from when the Democrats did it,” Spicer said, referring to the passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010.

“Everybody can read it, and it’s going to go through what they call ‘regular order,’” he said. “We’re not jamming this down anybody’s throat. It’s going to go through a committee process. All parties involved, all representatives in the House will be able to have input into it. I think that’s the way to conduct this process, is to do it to allow people to watch the process happen in the committees, allow members of Congress to have their input in it, to make amendments, to see that we get the best bill that achieves the goal for the American people.”

He blamed the Democratic secrecy he was maligning for the final shape of the bill. “When it was done the last time, it was jammed down people’s throats. And look what happened,” he said.

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan made similar commitments. But that’s not at all how the Republican bill has unfolded.

After rushing the original version through committee in the House and getting an unfavorable assessment of its effects from the Congressional Budget Office, Republican leaders realized they didn’t have the votes for their bill, the American Health Care Act, to pass……

It was generally assumed that the bill didn’t have much of a chance in the Senate. But that was before a small group of senators began working in private to develop a bill that might pass that body. And when we say “in private,” that’s underselling the point.

Only a small group of senators know what’s in the bill. An aide to one of the Republican senators working on it told Axios that no draft would be released because “we aren’t stupid” — meaning, apparently, that they knew better than to open up the bill to public criticism before the vote. The plan, apparently, is to send the bill to the CBO for a score before it is then released to the public.”

Your phone call of the week: Call Your Senator and demand that they work on healthcare in the open where constituents and patients can provide input

To call your senator go to “5 Calls”
https://5calls.org/issue/recJfyyL7LE0Ez4ys

SCRIPT
“DEMAND FULL TRANSPARENCY ON THE SENATE AHCA BILL
The Affordable Care Act, and the healthcare of millions of Americans, is under a massive and urgent threat by Republicans. On Wednesday, June 7th, Speaker Mitch McConnell used “Rule 14” to successfully fast-track the AHCA, the House healthcare bill that passed last month designed to deprive 23 million people of healthcare in order to provide tax breaks to corporations and the rich. Rule 14 will allow the bill to go straight to a Senate floor vote without any requirement for committee debate or discussion.

Currently, the Senate plan is being developed in secret and is expected to be submitted to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) around June 13th, without the release of any details of the submitted healthcare plan to the public or even Senate Democrats. While the CBO score will be released to the public two weeks later during the week of June 26th, McConnell is expected to immediately call for a vote on the bill on the Senate floor (to reach his publicly stated goal of passing the bill before the July 4th recess), giving Senate Democrats and constituents *hours* to learn of and digest a new healthcare plan that will affect one-sixth of the national economy and their own personal well-being.

Healthcare policy affects every single American, and it is unacceptable that this plan has not been transparent and available for sufficient Senate debate and public review. If we do not put pressure on now for full transparency on the contents of this healthcare plan, we may not get any visibility how it will potentially alter our lives until hours before the Senate’s final vote on the floor.”

From Kaitlyn Tiffany on The Verge: Crowdsourced definitions of ‘fan fiction’ hint at a sprawling, formless genre.

In a Newsweek piece about The Babadook as gay icon, Claire Shaffer wrote It’s no wonder, then, that the internet is quick to pounce on anything that might even remotely resemble queer representation. It’s part of why “slash fiction” is so popular on Tumblr, and why the 2015 period piece Carol still has a sizable internet following two years later.

There was a bit of chatter in parts of the media I don’t usually include here about [a] Harry Potter Fan Film [which] Explores Voldemort’s Origins (Ana Dumaraog, Screen Rants).

Regarding the 1956 meeting Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash, Elgin Courier-News’s Annie Alleman wrote It's a story that sounds like a music historian's fan fiction, but it actually happened one night in Memphis.

From a piece about China’s Generation Z by Qi Xijia for Global Times: Ling Ling, a graduate student from Shanghai University, said for a time she craved to be a voice actor because she had a crush on some Japanese anime characters, but now this idea has been replaced by her new interest in writing fanfiction for characters of the Marvel comic book universe.

Harry Potter, American Gods, Wonder Woman, Interstellar, Avengers, Prison Break, Bigfoot, Stranger Things, Obama & Trudeau, Pro hoops )

In a New York Magazine piece about exploration via Tinder, Breena Kerr wrote if you aren’t attracted to someone, for instance, who cares if you are both into the same fan fiction?

Forbes’s Hayley C. Cuccinello explored How Christina Lauren Went From [Twilight] Fanfiction Fame To 14 Bestsellers.

In a Globe and Mail review of Andrew Pyper’s The Only Child, Spencer Gordon wrote Today’s horror fans are trained to read, and watch, historically. From the grimiest of B-movie remakes to the cheek and transgression of fan-fic, horror exists on a knowing continuum, a tangled cobweb of tribute and rip-off.

In a piece for Asian Age about why no Indian shows or films produce as much fan output as Game of Thrones, Suridhi Sharma quoted author Anand Neelkanthan: “Perhaps all the Puranas were written as fan fiction. There are so many versions of Hindu mythology like Ramayana and Mahabharata that I think we have passed the stage of exploring fan fiction in itself,” he laughs, adding, “There are around 300 versions of Ramayana, so all this could be fan fiction. There are around 80 or 90 versions of Mahabharata. Each Purana has so many versions. There is fan fiction on Shiva and Vishnu. No stories have been as impactful for Indians as mythology, which is also why a lot of mythology-based fiction is selling so well now. Hanuman is our own Superman,” he quips.

Finally, [personal profile] msilverstar pointed me to an interesting Boing Boing piece by Racheline about bringing a fanfic sensibility to Tremontaine, concluding If you write stories – in your sandbox or anyone else’s -- the truth is that you’ve already met the wizard, because that’s what all of us that tell stories are.
