I'm stuck writing a paper and so I'm procrastinating and talking about fandom instead.
Snagged this from [livejournal.com profile] wildtiger7 who tagged me with Band of Brothers, BSG & The Wire

Comment and I will give you 3 fandoms and then you have to answer these questions.

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think that you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fan fiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?

First real sneak peak at the series The Pacific, aka the new WWII series by the team that made Band of Brothers. Due for release in 2010. Why, yes - I am excited.

As far as I know it is based on Eugene B. Sledge's book "With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa" which is pretty good as far as WWII-memoires go.

So, lack of inventive titles aside, I've finally had time to watch some tv - and thankfully the series available have been great.

Mad Men

This is odd, but I’m four episodes in and I’m not yet sure if I actually like Mad Men. Fascinated, yes definitely – but like it? I don’t know. What I do know is that I keep wanting to see more episodes, which probably means that I'm warming up to it. Spoilers up to ep. 4 )

Generation Kill

This on the other hand is a show I am utterly, utterly in love with. Spoilers for two first episodes )

The Rock'n'Roll Wolf or Mama.

Continuing the trend of odd children's television that few have heard of. Hee. This is the rock’n’roll version of an old Romanian fairytale. It is a French/Romanian/Soviet co-production from 1976, and when I was a kid they used to send this on telly all the time. You see Norwegian television didn’t have that much money and they were afraid of what they saw as American commercialism – so instead they bought and broadcasted lots of Eastern European productions. This was one of them. +++ )

It tells the story of Mother Goat (here called Rada), and her kids. Naturally there is an evil wolf (Titi Suru), who in this version dresses in black, tight leather and sings rock songs. Incidentally the wolf character was recently voted "most disturbing pre-teen sexual experience" by a rather large number of Norwegians. Interpret that as you wish. more wolf under cut )

So tell me - does this look familiar to any one? [livejournal.com profile] alexandral, do you have any recollection of this?

The first phrase I learned in French was la Grand Cataclysme. It sounds a bit ominous I know, but there is a logical explanation. It was one of the opening words of the narration of the wonderful cartoon Les Mondes Engloutis or Spartakus and the Sun beneath the Sea as it was called in English. But since Norwegian television never dubs anything, I and all my peers went around talking about la Grand Cataclysme. I suppose there are worse phrases.

Thoughts regarding The Wire seasons 1 -3, with a few remarks about season 4 for good measure.

I have recently rewatched the first three seasons of The Wire. I’ve wanted to do that for some time, and for a strange reason I apparently found the time during the busiest exam schedule. Or its possible I was just trying to find an excuse not to read yet another book on politics, rhetoric and advertising.

At any rate these are some thoughts jumble together and they span all the three seasons, with references to season four. To summarise: SPOILERS FOR ALL FOUR SEASONS!

cut for SPOILERS, quite a bit of text and bulletpoints )
