Exactly. I've experienced the same thing, though I suspect on a smaller scale. I always notice it when I' talking to someone who isn't a Scandinavian about aspects of my life that I take for granted. The 17th of May being a very good example - huge importance to me, not so much to the rest of the world.
The painted Caligula is rather funny looking, isn't he? *g* And what tickles me is that for a Roman he wouldn't be funny looking at all - but quite normal. But for us he just looks odd. (also - there is some amusement in seen the mad, bad Caligula with rosy cheeks. ;) )
And speaking of Rome - just a few days until season two! Yay!
