First up, so, so sorry about the late reply. RL has been (pardon the language) a bitch lately, and LJ has suffered from it.

Secondly, you have a Peter O'Toole icon! So much love. I have a deep fondness for O'Toole, probably influenced by Lawrence of Arabia ("The trick is not minding that it hurts"), as well as the two versions on Henry II in Beckett and Lion in the Winter.

As for New Amsterdam, I would be definitely be interested. I seem to remember reading about it when it aired, and thinking it sounded interesting.

Well, I don't really mind some experimentation, but somehow there were loads of good screenwriters back then. Of course, there are some eyesores...

Well, there will always be eyesores, but in general I like the coherence of narrative and the style of acting from this period. With the late 1960's film making I sometimes feel the focus on experimentation and supposed deep philosophy often diminishes the story. Also part of the supposedly political correctness of the 1960's and 1970's film at times get on my nerves - though there are exceptions. As always.

Especially theatre-trained actors; I'm interested in communication, kind of my area.

See, now I'm intrigued. My area is more the visual culture and cinematography of films (and art), so while I love certain actors I'm afraid I don't always give them the attention they deserve. I do wonder though, how it must be for actors with a theatrical background to make the transition to screen, and vice versa. Theater has always struck me as much more direct and intimate than cinema/television. The former gives an almost immediate response to a performance, whereas the latter pretty much excludes the audience from the de facto performance.

I don't read that much fantasy, just for the whole conventionality bit.

Hee. To some extent I can relate to that. I used to read a lot of fantasy, but at one point I became tired of the poor farmboy accepting his inheritance/powers, the wise old mage, the dragons and possibly the elves, and so I quit. Now ASOIAF is pretty much the only fantasy series I keep up with, which is not to say that I've started to dislike fantasy in general.
