Oh, how did you like Throne of Blood? I was scared witless by those witches in the fog...
Oh, and what did you think of If…? And Pandora's Box? Asking, cause I'm kinda obsessed with both films.

I was scared by the witch in the fog and his wife. When she slithers out to get the poisoned wine and all you hear is the swish-swish of her kimono? Gave me chills!

"If..." is one of those films I've watched several times. I adore it - its as simple as that. I love the characters, the strange narrative structure, the music that Malcolm McDowell keeps playing again and again. I love the lot. I should also get a prize for most WTF! ending ever, though in today's society it all becomes nearly unbearably poignant.

"Pandora's Box" was truly deserving the title 'masterpiece'. Louise Brooks was a rare beauty, but what I loved most was the themes of the film, particularly in the last part when they are on the boat and the count wants to sell Lulu into slavery. Creepy, creepy. I'm planning on posting a short review on it actually, as I am with quite a lot of the films I've seen. Just the small task of finding the time. *sigh*

Yay, I'm so glad to read your thoughts on the other two flicks. I saw "If..." my first year in film school and it was like an eyeopener. Before that I thought Carol Reed was the shit as far as British film went. Heh... Also, it marked my long lasting love affair with Malcolm McDowell.

Pandora's Box shocked me as well. Again, I'm so used to old movies looking a bit otherworldly, this one was so modern and... I don't know... raw? It was quite a shocker.

This whole thread made me go out on a search for the strange music that Malcom's character plays again and again. And I found it! (and playing it repeatedly since. So watch out for any since of growing anger and possible rebellion ;) ). "if..." was one of those films where certain scenes just burned themselves into my memory. The corporal punishment, the love story between the younger boy and Malcom's gymnast friend and so forth.

And hey - I love the "The Third Man", so my experience with Carol Reed was rather similar.

As for Pandora's Box it really lived up to its name, in that the plot kept opening up new evils and terrors. the ending with the murder juxtaposed with Lulu's father eating a Christmas Pudding gave me shivers.

Yes, yes, a 1000 times yes. The cocky way in which Mick enters the room where he received the beating... And the way he leaves, wiping one single tear so that no one sees. So iconic. I need a Mick Travis icon... :P
