let's talk about the weather

My local newspaper carries the weather forecast for the North and South Pole. They are tucked in there between places like Tokyo and Berlin. The weather for Monday is predicted to be – 5 degrees C and light snow for the North Pole, and -47 degrees C and wind for the South Pole.

I’m still trying to figure out for who this news is intended. I know we supposedly are a nation of polar explorers, but daily forecasts? *g*

well, maybe its for the persons with family members staying on one of the scientific research weather stations that are bound to be up there/down there? So they can say- "Oooo look, it must be -40 degrees on Queen Maud's land today, I hope Ola has buttoned his jacket an put on his woolen underwear under his super underwear under his windproof something" (It is kind of hard to imagine what amount of clothing -40 degrees demands...)

I would be very Norwegian thing wouldn't it - to worry about the weather and clothing? I'm beginning to suspect it's a national obsession this "no, it's not cold! You just haven't got the right type of clothing!"

Other than that - poor Ola, stuck in Queen Mauds land. Nothing there but him, penguins and the never stopping trail of Norwegians skiing towards the Pole. *grin*
