While in Rome I caught up with one of my friends, and she is currently writing about the Franciscan Monks. She kept insisting that the Franciscans had wholeheartedly adopted popular culture, and since I at first didn't quite believe her she presented proof:

This is the record cover made by by the Community of St. Saviour's Monastery in Jerusalem. (from here)

The dancing Franciscans. There is something very strange and very endearing about this...

Or you can buy one of many types of Franciscan sporting gear. I'm particularly fond of the pink hoodie (from here)

Oh, and btw [livejournal.com profile] lage_nom_ai? The whole YouTube madness thing? See above. ;)

Not to forget the awesomest Franciscan of them all, Fratello Metallo!

I cannot get over the name Fratello Metallo. That is pure genius.

OMG! I am seriously lost for words. The logo just manages to make a good thing even better. It's the double L's that does it for me really.

LLO is what did it for me, too. :D

And what did he say his songs were about? Sex, alcohol, God, life and tobacco. Seriously, it doesn't get any better than that.

There is something oddly appropriate about this reply being illustrated by what I think is an SPN icon. Sex, alcohol and God indeed. hee.

Hee. Thank you - though it should be said that [livejournal.com profile] dianora77 and [livejournal.com profile] lage_nom_ai have contributed greatly to this monastic madness. ;)

I do like the hoodie! Because, as always, nuns are way cooler:

The name Astro Nun is just awesome. As for the Dancing Dominicans, that just makes feel there should be a dance competition for Monastic orders. I would definitely watch! And I guess the Carthusians would loose by default, simply by not showing up. (ahh...nothing says lazy Sunday like bad monastic humour)

I know I keep reviving the "Crazy-things-on-you tube" thread, but this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFyP2yP-FWU&feature=player_embedded) just makes it necessary.

Besides, I feel it has become something of a tradition.

Dude. 21,000 people have watched that--and it's not even the most popular in its genre. And people comment on it!
